Resident Aliens
Many words are used in scripture to describe God's people. But here is one word that never appears: settler. On the contrary, God's people are regularly referred to as sojourners, exiles, and followers (to contextualize we can add refugee and resident alien). The only problem with this is many of us live as if we are settlers with much of our time and energy focused on building our own kingdoms, doing things our ways, for our pleasure and our benefit.
But is this really how we are called to live? If our citizenship is in heaven (Philippians 3:20), then what does that look like practically? If we really are citizens of heaven, then we are simply resident aliens living in a foreign land. But as we dwell in our foreign land, how do we keep our allegience to God's kingdom where we truly belong?
These are the questions we are asking as we begin our next series titled "Resident Aliens." Join us as we turn to the book of Daniel for answers to these questions and receive guidance on how best to live as Resident Aliens in 2018.
